A native of Nebraska, Roger Carlisle came to Jonesboro, Arkansas in 1974, where he taught drawing and painting in the Art Department at Arkansas State University . He earned his BFA and MFA from the University of Nebraska. The artist works in oil, acrylic, pastels, and watercolor. His striking landscapes have a broad range of vibrant color, mood, and style. His work has been shown in major competitions throughout the country, including Arts for the Parks National Competition in Jackson Hole, WY. His work has won major commissions and prizes. He was commissioned to design the Arkansas Sesquintennial Stamp in 1986 for the U.S. Postal Service and numerous collector panels for the U.S. Postal Commemorative Society. Collectors of Carlisle’s work include Stephens Inc., The Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging, IBERIA Bank and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Roger was a well-recognized and respected artist, teacher, and mentor to many of us that knew him personally as well as those that knew him only through his art.
As we walk around Jonesboro, we find his work in many professional offices and we are reminded of the unique talent he demonstrated when capturing the medley of colors in trees or the spectacular brilliance of a sunset. He left us with many pieces to gaze upon that make us ponder the meaning of art, love, friendship, and all things that are timeless. Roger leaves behind a legacy of challenges for those of us that were inspired by him to step up paint life at its best.
